FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Public Invited to Discuss Future Service Proposals for MARC Train
BALTIMORE, MD (November 27, 2024) – The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration is seeking public input to redefine the vision and goals of the Maryland Area Regional Commuter (MARC) system. A virtual public meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2024, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. to discuss the ongoing MARC Growth and Transformation Plan. Attendees will learn about some options under consideration for future service across the network. The meeting will include discussion-based breakout sessions. Pre-registration is encouraged, but not required, and can be done here https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1038859846767.
“Over the last several months, MTA has undertaken a major effort to develop preferred scenarios for future MARC service,” said Maryland Transit Administrator Holly Arnold. “Public input on these plans is critical to expanding MARC service and improving regional connectivity.”
MARC Train is a commuter rail system comprised of the Brunswick Line, Camden Line and Penn Line. These three rail lines provide access to Washington, D.C., Baltimore and Martinsburg, West Virginia. The system connects to Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall Airport, Amtrak and local and intercity bus service. The Camden and Brunswick Lines operate on weekdays, while the Penn Line operates seven days a week.
The MARC Growth and Transportation Plan will include 5-year, 10-year, and unconstrained service scenarios. Each scenario will contain information on potential service opportunities, contingent projects needed to achieve each scenario, and associated costs. The Maryland Transit Administration initiated the MARC Growth and Transformation plan in October 2023, with an online survey and public comment period. The agency received more than 4,600 responses with respondents rating the top priorities as expanded weekend service, improved frequency and service to new destinations. Learn more about the plan on the project website.
MTA encourages the public to attend the meeting, participate in the breakout sessions and provide input. The public can also send feedback to [email protected]. This feedback is an important part of the Plan development.
The Maryland Transit Administration is one of the largest multi-modal transit systems in the United States, and operates Local Bus, Commuter Bus, Light Rail, Metro Subway, MARC Train Service and a comprehensive Mobility paratransit system.
