FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
State Transit Workers Show Support for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Baltimore’s Pride Festivities June 15-16
BALTIMORE, MD (June 13, 2024) – The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration is celebrating Pride Month by taking part in Baltimore’s Pride Parade and Pride in the Park events June 15-16. The agency is also highlighting the importance of Pride and its message of diversity and inclusion with the unveiling of specially designed “Pride” buses and train car.
“The Maryland Transit Administration stands with the LGBTQIA+ community today and every day,” said Maryland Transit Administrator Holly Arnold. “This is only one part of our effort to cultivate a system that is safe and welcoming to all.”
This year the agency will debut a specially wrapped Pride themed light rail train designed in the Progress Pride flag colors. The light rail train joins two specially wrapped “Pride” buses currently in the fleet. Administrator Arnold and more than 70 agency staff are scheduled to attend the Pride Parade on Saturday, June 15. The agency will continue supporting Baltimore Pride festivities by participating in the Pride in the Park event Sunday, June 16.
The agency encourages everyone to join in the fun and take transit to participate in Baltimore Pride events. Riders can plan their trip at mta.maryland.org, use Transit app to track their bus or train arrival, and use CharmPass for a convenient and secure way to purchase transit fares. More information about Baltimore’s Pride events is available at baltimorepride.org.
Pride Month is celebrated in June to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York City. The Stonewall Uprising is considered a tipping point for the gay rights movement in the United States.
