FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Free Shuttle Bus to Connect Five Affected Stops
BALTIMORE, MD (April 25, 2024) – The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration is set to launch a planned Light Rail maintenance project, with construction beginning May 4 and continuing through May 24. During this time, Light Rail stops south of the North Linthicum Station will be closed including Glen Burnie, Ferndale, Linthicum, BWI Business District and BWI. Free shuttle buses will be available to transport passengers between the five affected stops. Passengers can expect buses to operate every 20 to25 minutes. The stations will reopen on May 25.
“We recognize the impact this project will have on light rail riders and we’re grateful for their patience as we complete this much needed state of good repair maintenance,” said Maryland Transit Administrator Holly Arnold. “This project will help to make our light rail system more resilient and decrease future delays for riders.”
The track project is part of the agency’s efforts to maintain the light rail system in a state of good repair. The effort will also adjust curve alignments along the mainline south section and BWI Spur, with the goal of minimizing future delays and optimizing safety.
In an effort to limit future service disruptions, MTA will utilize the station closures to replace the grade crossing at Camp Meade North Road. This work includes rebuilding the intersection and the installation of new rubberized crossing panels where Light Rail crosses. This will help mitigate the impact of roadway settlement and provide a smoother transition for vehicles traveling through that intersection.
The Maryland Transit Administration is one of the largest multi-modal transit systems in the United States, and operates Local Bus, Commuter Bus, Light Rail, Metro Subway, MARC Train Service and a comprehensive Mobility paratransit system. The goal of the Maryland Transit Administration is to provide safe, efficient, reliable transit across Maryland with world-class customer service.
