PUBLIC MEETINGS ON RED LINE PROJECT SCHEDULED TO GATHER COMMUNITY FEEDBACK

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Open House Format Provides Opportunity for Direct Engagement with

Riders, Local Businesses and Other Stakeholders

BALTIMORE, MD (July 24, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration will host a series of open house meetings from July 26 to August 1 to engage the public on the relaunched Red Line project in Baltimore and gather neighborhood feedback as the project advances. The meetings will outline key project considerations and share options for transit mode – bus rapid transit and light rail transit – as well as tunneling considerations, potential alignment and environmental documentation updates.

The Red Line has been shaped by more than a decade of study, engineering, environmental analysis and community participation. Governor Wes Moore’s relaunch of the Red Line, announced in June, will build upon the technical work and community engagement conducted prior to the 2015 cancellation of the project, as well as the recent work completed under the Central Maryland Regional Transit Plan East-West Corridor Study in 2021 and 2022.

“Governor Moore’s revival of the Red Line has been greeted with strong support from the community as well as city, county and federal leaders,” said Maryland Transportation Secretary Paul J. Wiedefeld. “We know that support relies on our commitment to ongoing and meaningful interaction with communities along the project corridor during every stage of the process, and these public meetings are an important step.”

“The Red Line is a critical project that will address a major gap in east-west transit service,” said Maryland Transit Administrator Holly Arnold. “We’re committed to proactively engaging with transit riders, communities, businesses and other stakeholders to listen to their ideas.”

The open houses will take place at five venues along the project corridor:
