FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Rodwell Elementary/Middle School Families Benefit from Volunteer Project

BALTIMORE, MD (December 21, 2022) – Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland

Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) Police today shared in the spirit of giving with local families at the 21st annual Adopt-A-Family Holiday event. MDOT MTA police officers, assisted by Santa and Mrs. Claus, distributed holiday gifts to selected families from Calvin M. Rodwell Elementary/Middle School in Baltimore. The gathering at MDOT MTA Police headquarters was the first time the event was held in-person since 2020.

“I’m proud of the tremendous generosity of the many officers that make up the MDOT MTA Police family,” said MDOT MTA Police Chief Jerome Howard. “They volunteer their money and time to make the holiday season special for Baltimore families in the community we serve.”

Over the last 20 years, MDOT MTA Police officers have made the holiday season brighter for more than 200 families from local schools by providing gifts and meals through the Adopt-a-Family program.

The holiday Adopt-A-Family program is one of the many volunteer outreach initiatives the MDOT MTA Police participate in to support local communities. Other annual events include the Polar Bear Plunge and Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics of Maryland, National Night Out and a Back-to-School Supply Drive.
