The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) will roll out its 2018 Winter Service Changes to CityLink, LocalLink and Express BusLink services on Sunday, February 4. Service changes are in response to customer demand and will further enhance the BaltimoreLink system by linking transit riders to more job centers and modes of transportation. A new bus route also will connect Marylanders to the Tradepoint Atlantic business campus in Sparrows Point.
“Through BaltimoreLink, we are delivering on our promise to get people where the jobs are while giving the city of Baltimore a transit system it can be proud of,” said MDOT MTA Administrator Kevin Quinn. “In response to our riders, we’re also adjusting our system to reduce overcrowding, eliminate inefficiencies that improve reliability, provide better connections between transit modes and improve access to shopping, entertainment and education.”
The new LocalLink 63 will provide access to Tradepoint Atlantic – the major employment center at Sparrows Point that includes a FedEx Distribution Center and a new Under Armour facility. In addition, modifications to existing routes will provide access to employment opportunities near Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport on the LocalLink 75 as well as the extension of the Express BusLink 104 to Harbor East in downtown Baltimore.
Additional late-night trips on the LocalLink 65 will connect transit riders to major employers in Southeast Baltimore like the Amazon distribution center on Broening Highway. Route modifications to the CityLink Green and LocalLink 78 will improve reliability and access to these routes, while a slight route change to the LocalLink 95 will provide additional access to two senior apartment complexes as well as new development at the Rotunda in Hampden.
Three Express BusLink routes will be eliminated based on low ridership – Express BusLink 102, which runs from Sheppard Pratt Hospital to the White Marsh Park & Ride; Express BusLink 106 from Sheppard Pratt Hospital to Owings Mills; and Express BusLink 107 from Old Court Road to BWI Rail Station.
“Throughout this process, we conducted extensive ridership analysis to determine the best use of our resources,” Quinn added. “Comments from our public hearings, in conjunction with our ridership data, really helped drive our decision to modify our service as part of our 2018 Winter Service Changes.”
MDOT MTA conducts service changes to local bus service three times a year – in February, June and September. For a full list of 2018 Winter Service Changes, visit https://mta.maryland.gov/servicechanges/winter2018.
